Leroy S. Horst

LeRoy S. Horst, 77, of 1495 Reading Rd., Mohnton joined his Redeemer in Glory on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at his home. His wife of 23 years, Ruth M. (Sensenig) Horst, survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen M. (Hurst) Horst in 1989.

Born in Clay Twp., he was the son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Sensenig) Horst.

LeRoy was a salesman for agricultural fertilizers and pesticides in Lancaster and Berks Counties. He was also a self-employed auctioneer.

He was a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, camping with family, motorcycling, and horse riding. He was a founding member of the Brecknock Saddle Tramps. LeRoy was a staple on the sidelines of Brecknock baseball games for many years, first as a player, then as a coach, and finally as a fan. He was a natural story-teller whose tales will live on in the memories of those who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons: Lonny C. married to Dixie (Young) Horst, Columbia Crossroads, PA; Lance V. married to Marsha (Andrew) Horst, New Holland; Brent L. married to Donna (Weaver) Horst, Bowmansville; Joshua L. Horst and Jordon C. Horst, at home; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother Mervin married to Minerva Horst, New Holland and a sister Edith Horst, Ephrata.

He was preceded in death by a son, Arthur L. Horst, a brother Ray Horst, and three sisters: Esther Burkholder, Lydia Ann Bowman, and Grace Weaver.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 10 a.m. at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 128 Pleasant Valley Rd., East Earl with Pastor Larry Weber officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewings will be held at the church on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 – 10 a.m. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.
