Abram Klaassen, 91, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland died Sunday morning, August 12 at Garden Spot Village. His wife, Mary Jane (Myers) Klaassen, survives.
Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of the late Jacob and Anna (Funk) Klaassen.
During World War II, he served in the Army, participating in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland battles and campaigns.
Following his return home, he spent his working years as a brick mason working for J. Roy Wise and Charles Weaver Masonry.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Phillies baseball.
Abe was a member of St. John Center Lutheran Church, the Long Run Hunting Camp, Adamstown VFW, the Garden Spot Lions Club and a life member of both the Bowmansville Fire Company and the Lancaster County Fireman’s Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children: F. Jewell married to Barry Stewart of Frisco, TX and A. Logan married to Cindy (Mask) Klaassen of Marysville; three grandchildren: Brittany Stewart Rosenbaum, Adam Klaassen, and Haley Stewart; and a brother Joseph married to Doris Klaassen, Denver.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 15 at 2 PM at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557 with Pastor Robert Kramer and Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. Interment will be in Center Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the chapel on Wednesday from 1 to 2 PM. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, address above or to St. John Center Lutheran Church, 599 Reading Rd., East Earl, PA 17519.
