Alberta E. Benner, 94, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, in Akron, PA after a long illness.
Born in Leola, daughter of the late Noah and Metta Steffy, she lived in Lancaster County all her life. The last number of years were spent at Garden Spot Village, New Holland and a Maple Farms, Akron. She was married for 67 years to Wilmer J. Benner who died in 2008. For many years she was a farmer’s wife. She was a member of Old Road Mennonite Church in White Horse all of her married life. She loved the Lord and was active in serving Him in teaching Sunday School, sewing circle, and in several M.C.C. related activities.
Surviving are four children: Louise, wife of the Rev. Irvin Martin of Lititz, Lonita, wife of Lee Englehart of Honey Brook, Marlin, husband of Suzanne (Koenig) Benner of Mohnton, Eileen, wife of Samuel Ringler of Narvon; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Jason Steffy and four sisters, Faith Buckwalter, Marian King, Edith Hershey, and Harriet Kepiro.
Preceding her in death was a grandson, Gregory Myer; a great-grandson, Austin Plank; and 2 brothers, Chester Steffy and Allan Steffy.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Old Road Mennonite Church with Rev. Irvin L. Martin and Michael L. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 – 10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to M.C.C.
