Alexander Szucs, Jr.

Alexander (Alex) Szucs Jr., 96, of New Holland, formerly of Broomall, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at Garden Spot Village. Dorothy Elinor (Samuels) Szucs, high school nickname Sammie, his wife, preceded him in death in 2016. Alex was a member of St. Stephens Reformed Church in New Holland, PA.

Born in Coatesville, PA on August 31,1928. Alex was the son of Alexander and Barbara (Banyascsky) Szucs. After graduating from Scott High School in Coatesville, he attended Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, where he met his wife, Dorothy from Toronto. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later went on to earn an MA in Education from Temple University.

Dorothy and Alex were married in January 1955 at the Peoples Church in Toronto. After they were married Alex served in Korea. When he returned, they settled in Broomall, PA where their sons Richard and David were born. Alex joined the faculty at Delaware County Christian School, Newtown Square, PA, in 1955 where he taught for over 50 years. He was one of the original high school faculty and taught history, social studies, Bible, English, typing, and photography.

When they moved to Garden Spot, Alex jumped into the community. He played golf, took photos of residents, and volunteered, most recently in the mail room. He loved his 2 nights a week playing Weirdo, a card game. Alex loved to read the Bible as well as books about theology and history and biographies.

Alex was also preceded in death by his brother Andrew Szucs in 2017. Alex is survived by two sons: Dr. Richard Alexander Szucs and his wife Ruth, of Richmond, VA, and Andrew David Szucs and his wife Rhonda, of Garden Grove, CA; four grandchildren: Alexandra Szucs Tyree and her husband, Jeremy, Vera Szucs, Mathew Szucs and his wife Kinsey and Rachel Szucs Midei and her husband Nick. His first great granddaughter, Samantha (Sammie) Szucs, was born to Matthew and Kinsey on his 96th birthday just a few weeks ago. Alex loved his children and grandchildren very much.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 6pm. Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA 17557 with Rev. DiNardo, St. Stephens Reformed Church will be officiating. A private interment will precede the service at Glenwood Memorial Park in Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund or to Delaware County Christian School Scholarship Fund.
