Allen W. Baxter, 85, of Blue Ball, died Friday, July 19, 2013 at his home.
Born in Salisbury Twp., he was the son of the late Chester Leroy and Bessie Eva (Watson) Baxter. His first wife, Grace M. (Buckwalter) Baxter died in 1995. He later married Barbara A. (Cramer) Baxter.
Allen worked for 38 ½ years as a machinist at the New Holland Machine Company. Prior to that, he worked 10 years at the former Frank Ix & Sons silk mill. He served as a Fire Policeman for many years and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gunsmithing. He was formerly active with the New Holland and Blue Ball Fire Companies and he loved Bluegrass music.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Sandra L. Wilson of Gypsum, CO, Roger A. Baxter of Ephrata, Daenett, married to Robert Shivery of Narvon, and Randy D., married to Dee Baxter of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters, Evelyn Wallace, Lester Baxter, “Sadie” Sara Taylor, Pearl Walton, and Laura Mae Doll.
Preceding him in death are five brothers, Joseph, Wayne, Harold, John, and Wilson; and two sisters, Violet Mummau, and Kathryn Coulter.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 10:30 am at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with the Reverend Timothy Heitz officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Funeral Home from 9:30 – 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Garden Spot Fire Rescue, 339 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557.
