Allen M. Burkholder

Allen M. Burkholder, 82, of New Holland, died Friday, March 6, 2015, at his residence after a long illness. He was the husband of Vera S. (Zimmerman) Burkholder, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in East Earl Township, he was a son of the late Henry and Anna (Martin) Burkholder. He was a retired farmer and a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 15 children; Ella Mae, married to Ivan Nolt, of New Holland, Mabel, married to Frank Burkholder, of Withee, WI, Earl, married to Naomi (Zimmerman) Burkholder, of Shippensburg, Vera, married to David Martin, of Dunmore, WV, Raymond, married to Alma (Leinbach) Burkholder, of Withee, WI, Allen, married to Minnie (Zeiset) Burkholder, of New Holland, Leroy, married to Marlene (Brubaker) Burkholder, of Canadaigua, NY, Mervin, married to Bernice (Horst) Burkholder, of New Holland, Sidney, married to Louella (Reiff) Burkholder, of New Enterprise, Arlene, married to Carl Brubaker, of New Holland, Lawrence, married to Marlene (Reiff) Burkholder, of New Enterprise, Jere, married to Margaret (Martin) Burkholder, of Elkton, KY, Susan, married to James Garman, of Plymouth, OH, Miriam, married to Allen Ringler, of Narvon, and Mark, married to Arlene (Shirk) Burkholder, of New Holland; a daughter-in-law, Alma (Zimmerman) Burkholder, wife of Allen’s late son Melvin; a brother, Harry Burkholder; 92 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his son Melvin, a granddaughter, Luella, and a sister, Katie Martin.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 8:45 a.m. at the Mervin Burkholder residence, 481 Ranck Rd, New Holland, PA, 17557 with further services at 9:30 AM at Weaverland Mennonite Church, Weaverland Road, East Earl, with the Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Mervin Burkholder residence, 481 Ranck Rd. on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers.
