Amos N. Redcay

Amos N. Redcay, 83, of Ephrata, PA, passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at Fairmount Retirement Community following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Ruth (Mast) Redcay to whom he was married for almost 61 years. He had been a resident of Crestview Apartments at Fairmount for the past 7 years. Prior to that, he resided in the Morgantown area and had been a resident of Berks and Lancaster County all his life. Amos was born in Lancaster County, and was the son of the late Amos M. and Bertha Nolt Redcay. He spent his early years working as a hired hand for various farmers and later worked at the Hat Factory in Adamstown. In 1952 he began his career as a stone mason, becoming self employed in 1958 and continued in the business for over 55 years.


Amos was loved by many and will be remembered by all for his great sense of humor and his love for people. He and Ruth were a part of the Goodville Gospelaires for 12 years and a member of Goodville Mennonite Church. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and vacationing at his cabin in Huntingdon County.


Also surviving is a sister Bertha Breneman of Lititz, and six children: Mary Ann, wife of Dennis Ruth of Newville, Randy of Morgantown, Karen, wife of Brian Musser of Narvon, Bonnie, wife of Skip Weber of Reading, Marcia, wife of Richard Whiteman of Mohnton, and Amy, wife of Dennis Weaver of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lee (stillborn) and a daughter Kathy (24 yrs.)


Also surviving are 15 grandchildren: Duane (Michelle) Ruth, Darrell (Tanya) Ruth, Darla (Michael) Allardyce, Dawn (Erik) Tack, Heather (Bryan) Martin, Dustin (Kim) Musser, Tracy Musser, Tesia Smucker, Todd, Tyler and Tara Whiteman, and Jesse, Brandi, Serena and Zachary Weaver, and 9 great grandchildren.


Also preceding him in death were ten brothers and four sisters: Martin, Clayton, Norman, Abram, Henry, Adam, Titus, Allen, Mahlon, Edwin, Elva, Mabel, Eva Wealand and Martha Ruhl.


Services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 10 AM at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown, PA. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 – 10 a.m. If desired, memorials may be sent to Fairmount Homes Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522.
