Ann Vivian Tierney

Ann V. Tierney (McCready), 91, of New Holland, PA, passed into eternal life on Friday March 22, 2024.

Born in Port Carbon, PA, December 11th, 1932, the fourth child of the late Leo V. and Kathyrn (Smith) McCready. She was a hard worker and grew up loving the traditions of the coal region of Pennsylvania. Graduating St. Stephens H.S. as Salutatorian with a full college scholarship which she gave up to care for her mother. Ann worked for Met Life Insurance where she met the love of her life Jack Tierney of Minersville, PA. They married and were gifted with 6 children: Michelle, Bruce, Mark, Blane, Cheryl Ann, and Sharon. While raising children, she graduated Nursing School with top honors and worked at Rancocas Valley Hospital, South Jersey, St Joseph’s Hospital in Pontiac Michigan and Andover Convalescent Home in Sparta, NJ.

After the early passing of her husband, she worked at Picatinny Arsenal, working her way up from clerk to Engineering Assistant and earned Awards of recognition from the Armaments Center – U.S. Army.

Ann retired in 1993 to New Holland, PA and became a dear neighbor and friend to many. She had a love for animals, flowers and gardening and often beatified Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church grotto and rectory. Quick to help out and use her many talents wherever there was a need – thus known for her great baking, cooking, sewing projects, care for Liturgical vestments and altar clothes, and dog sitting! She was very inquisitive, loved to hear stories, laugh and learn. Her crossword skills were impressive. Ann was an excellent model of perseverance through the ups and downs of life, and had an inspiring prayer life BUT her favorite hobby was her family! We will miss her deep love for our Lord, Our Lady, Family, Friends and of course her cows and dogs.

She is survived by her children Michelle Godsil (Paul), Bruce Tierney, Mark Tierney (Lisa), Blane Tierney, Sharon Butler (Johnny) and grandchildren Megan Tierney, Ryan Tierney, Lyndsey Tierney, Elizabeth Butler, Conor Butler and Erin Butler. Her nieces and nephews, Liz Tierney, Tom Tierney, Tim Oliver, Jody Oliver, Viviane Stacy, Denis Hall, Kevin Hall, Jackie Everdale, Diane Everdale.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 6th, 2024 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New Holland, PA. Visitation starting at 10:00a.m., Rosary at 10:30a.m. and Mass at 11:00a.m.
