Anna Elizabeth (Mentzer) Weaver, 107, of New Holland, passed away on November 9, 2023 as a resident of Garden Spot Village.
Born in Media, she was the daughter of the late Herbert K. and Mary Ellen (Bair) Mentzer.
She was the loving wife of the late Russel C. Weaver, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage until the time of his passing in 1988.
She was a member of St. Stephen Reformed Church. She was first employed by IX’s Silk Mill, then she worked for Styer and Evans for 10 years, she then worked for George A. Weaver for many years, until her retirement. She was a founding member of the New Holland Women’s Club, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and painting with watercolors.
Anna grew up on her family’s farm that dates back to the Revolutionary War, until she married Russel.
Anna had a strong will for life, at the age of 83, she was diagnosed with cancer, and was graciously seen by a world-renowned surgeon at John Hopkins Hospital. After a very successful procedure, she was able to enjoy another 24 years of life.
She is survived by her son; R. Lee, husband of Mary Shelley-Weaver of Lititz, 2 grandsons; Mark, husband of Trina Weaver and David Weaver, 6 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, 1 niece, 2 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, Anna is preceded in death by her brother; John Mentzer, grandsons; Matthew L. Weaver and Michael L. Weaver and her step grandson; Mark A. Shelley.
The family would like to give many thanks to the nursing staff at Garden Spot Village nursing staff for their wonderful care throughout this year.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Groff High Funeral Home, 145 W Main Street, New Holland PA 17557 with Dr. Andrew DiNardo officiating. There will be a visitation held from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial in St. Stephen Reformed Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Garden Spot Benevolent Fund, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA 17557 or to John Hopkins University, www.hopkinsmedicine.org
