My mom, Barbara Burkhart, loved helping others and devoted her life to doing so. She donated years of her life to the Fivepointville Ambulance then found the will and the time to study, to learn, to sacrifice her time for others as a paramedic for the Ephrata Hospital. She was married to my dad, Stanley Burkhart, and she had two children, myself(Sue) and my brother(Ken) and she devoted her life to make sure we could survive in this crazy and so often cruel world we now live in. My mom held a high standard— Do the absolute best you can! and “go for it”. Do not settle for less than your best. She was also a superb tailor. She helped many young women with bridal and bridesmaids gowns, donated her time as a costume and seamstress for GSPA(Garden Spot Performing Arts under Stan Deen) and was always generous with her time and talents with everyone in the surrounding Lancaster area. Her best lesson for me, her daughter, was to remember that life is precious. Let me repeat that, “ life is precious”. One chance to make a change. One chance to live, learn and make the world a better place for not one person, but for everyone. These are the lessons she taught me and everyone else around her. And she knew how to laugh. To really laugh! To feel joy and laughter no matter how much pain came along the way. This is my farewell to my wonderful mother who was so loved. She is survived by myself, my brother Ken and her niece and nephews, Kendra Watson, David Burkhart and Christopher Burkhart. May she rest in peace
