Bertha B. Sauder

Bertha B. Sauder, 96, formerly of New Holland, passed away on December 1, 2014 at Landis Homes Retirement Community, Lititz. She was a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church.

Born in Brecknock Twp, she was the daughter of the late Noah B. and Matilda (Geigley) Bowman. She was married 74 years and 11 months to John B. Sauder.

Bertha was secretary and treasurer for her husband’s hay, straw and coal business for 34 years. She enjoyed caring for her family and playing the accordion when she had time.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three children, June Arlene, wife of the late Donald Suderman of Hillsboro, KS, Nancy Jean, wife of Barton “Rusty” Eshelman of Ephrata, and Darlene May, wife of Donald Beachy of Bird-in-Hand; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death is a son, Robert Lamar Sauder, husband to Erma Hess of Willow Street. She was the last of her family. Preceding her in death are three brothers, Elmer, Amos, and Harry Bowman; and a sister, Anna Martin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6 from 9-11 am at the Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel located at 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend services at 11 am following the viewing. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
