Betty Wood Herr, 82, of Narvon, died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at home surrounded by family. She was much loved by her husband of 62 years, Robert D. Herr, and by four children, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Born in Corry, PA on November 26, 1933, Betty met Bob at Penn State University where she earned a bachelor-of-arts degree. After their marriage they moved to a farm in Lancaster County where they have raised Registered Dorset sheep and Boer goats for many years. Betty took an active part in running the farm, exhibiting the livestock, and was very involved in the livestock community. She enjoyed helping youth with their 4-H and FFA livestock projects and judged numerous livestock events across the East Coast. She served as president of the Pennsylvania FFA alumni Association and Director of the Pennsylvania Dorset Association. In addition to her agriculture interests, Betty worked as a director in public relations for Victor F. Weaver Company.
Betty considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children and their children. She took great pleasure in spending time with all of them.
Betty is survived by her husband Dr. Robert D. Herr, of Narvon; daughter Drs. Elizabeth and husband Fred Lewis of Denver, Colorado; Son Christian and wife Michele of Camp Hill, PA; Daughter Barbara Banbury of Danville, OH; Daughter Margaret and husband David Diffenbach, of Frankford DE; Granddaughter Jamie Banbury and husband Greg Beatty, of Indiana, PA; Twin granddaughters, Madison of Parkesburg, PA and Taylor Banbury of Danville, OH; Granddaughter Ali Herr of Camp Hill, PA; Grandsons: Andrew Lewis San Francisco CA, Daniel Lewis, Managua, Nicaragua and Ryan Herr, Camp Hill, PA.; Great-grandson, Stetson Beatty, of Indiana, PA.; brother Dr. Don Wood of Lexington, KY
She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Elizabeth Wood, and sister Nancy Dunnewold.
A memorial service will be held at the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, East Earl, PA at 11 am, Wednesday March 16. Pastor Krisana Poontajak will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 am until service time. A private family service and internment will be held on Tuesday at graveside at the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.
