Betty Lou Burkholder

Betty Lou (Strothers) Burkholder, 87, of Terre Hill PA, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Born in Altoona, PA, she was the daughter of the late Abner and Ruth Bohn Strothers. After finishing high school, Betty moved to Lancaster County where she met her husband, the love of her life, Harry Burkholder, with whom she shared the next 60 years of her life. Betty loved being a stay at home mother and raised her three children as well as her granddaughter. In addition, she helped take care of her many grandchildren throughout the years and was known affectionately by all as “Nanny”.

Betty loved to bake and always had a full cookie jar. She enjoyed gardening and spending time outside on her patio. She loved watching football and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s fan. Betty loved to play games and spend time with her family especially her sister Barb and brothers Dick, Don and Jim.

She is survived by her sons Rick Burkholder (Janice) of Ephrata, PA, Scott Burkholder (Susan) of Morgantown, PA, and granddaughter Misty Knier of Terre Hill, PA, whom she raised from birth. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Fegley (Lynnwood) of Fleetwood, PA, and three brothers, Richard Strothers (Naomi) of Ephrata, PA, Donald Strothers (Roberta) of Ephrata, PA and James Strothers (Carol) of Denver, PA,

Also surviving are 7 additional grandchildren Amber F., Tara, Missy, Ashley, Amber C., Austin, and Elizabeth, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Burkholder, daughter Rebecca Sue (Burkholder) Norwood and infant daughter Pamela.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, with Pastor David Kling officiating.
