Betty Mae Mcgee

Betty Mae McGee, 68, of Akron, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Maple Farm Nursing Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Clara (Horst) Martin. Her husband, Edwin A. McGee, died Aug. 28, 2004.

In her early years, Betty worked as an LPN at various area nursing homes but most recently she worked as an evening receptionist at Maple Farm. She also volunteered at Lancaster General Hospital.

Surviving is a son, Dwane, married to Jennifer (Orris) McGee of Bradford; two granddaughters that she dearly loved, Brittany and Justine McGee; six brothers and sisters, Sam, married to Georgia (Lefever) Martin of Lancaster, Millie, married to Jim Hertzler of New Holland, Charles, married to Joyce (Weaver) Martin of Ephrata, Rev. Wilmer, married to Barbara A. (Eberly) Martin of Lancaster, Richard, married to Ann (Gingrich) Martin of Mt. Joy, and Norma J., married to Bruce Stauffer of Akron; and a brother-in-law, Charles Shenk of Goshen, IN.

Preceding her in death is a daughter, Diane McGee in 1973; and a sister, Marian Shenk.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 4 PM with visitation from 3:30 – 4 PM at Akron Grace E.C. Church, N. 7th Street, Akron, PA with the Reverend Les Cool officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Maple Farm Nursing Center, 604 Oak St., Akron, PA 17501.
