Boyd R. Wenger

Boyd R. Wenger, Jr., 91, of East Earl, died Wednesday, February 18, 2015 in Lancaster after a brief illness.

Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Boyd R., Sr. and Ella (McGowan) Wenger. His wife, Sarah E. (Bryan) Wenger, died Dec. 15, 1995.

During WWII Boyd served in the US Army where he was decorated the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars and the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal with three bronze stars. After the service he worked as a truck driver hauling steel and later he retired from the Lancaster County Solid Waste Authority in 1988.

He was a member of AARP and enjoyed latch hook, collecting model RC cars, NASCAR, making game boards, playing cards, word search, crossword puzzles, eating out, and cooking.

Surviving is a daughter, Carolyn, married to Bill Esterling of Middletown, DE, three grandchildren, Billy, married to Monica (Janicki) Esterling of Bear, DE, Pamela, married to Mario Patone of Landenberg, PA, and Michael, married to Andrea (Kinsler) Esterling of Elkton, MD; and eight great grandchildren, William, III, Gabriella, Andrew, Sophia, Molly, Riley, Jacob, and Carley.

Preceding him in death is a sister, Edna Wenger.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24 at 11 AM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with the Reverend Jonathan Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the Boehms United Methodist Cemetery in Willow Street. Viewing will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9:30 – 11 AM.
