Brenda G. Andes, 74, of New Holland, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025. Brenda was born in Lancaster to her late parents, Earl Hoover and Anna (Good) Hoover.
Brenda was a blessing to all who knew her. She spent her career caring for more than 100 children as a daycare provider through the years of 1977-2022, earning her the title of “Gram” from far more than her own biological grandchildren. As one family friend humorously but fittingly put it, “she raised half of New Holland.”
Graduating from Garden Spot High School in 1969, she married the late Barry Andes and they remained in the New Holland area raising their family while Brenda also started her daycare business. After divorcing, Brenda continued to be a solid rock within the community and an example of faith, positivity, and love for her family. Beyond her work with children she steadfastly contributed her time and compassionate support volunteering at places such as Water St Rescue Mission and Coatesville VA Hospital for many years. She was also very involved in church groups at Ranck’s United Methodist, Ephrata First UMC, and others.
Some of Brenda’s most favorite things were time spent spoiling her family, making every event a holiday, being anywhere near a beach or in the mountains at Slate Run, PA, and cooking and baking fantastic foods.
After suffering a stroke in 2022 she whole-heartily “bloomed where she was planted” at Tel Hai Retirement Community, participating daily in activities such as bible study, bingo and trivia and continuing to make warm connections with everyone she met. Brenda’s positive spirit was remarkable and contagious, and was built on her faith in Jesus Christ. She shared God’s love wherever she went.
Brenda is survived by her children, Anthony “Tony” Andes and his wife Justine, of New Holland, Jodi Kershner and her husband Dan, of Alexander, NC, Jess Martin and her husband Adam, of East Earl, and Jill Wilson and her husband Bill, of New Holland. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Kyle, Evan, Kara, Kase, Carter, Rowan, and Kolt, and one sister, Diane Hoover.
