Carl E. Bomberger

Carl E. Bomberger, 84, formerly of Leola, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Garden Spot Village following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Mildred M. (Wenger) Bomberger with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.


Born in Rapho Twp., he was the son of the late Isaac G. and Sally (Breidenstine) Bomberger. He was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren where he had served on the property commission many years and with Brethren Disaster Relief in the District.


Carl was a co-owner of Wengers’ Flowers, Leola, where he managed the greenhouses and bookkeeping. He delivered flowers for Royers for ten years.


A 1947 graduate of West Lampeter High School, he was formerly a member of Leola Lions Club. He was an avid Phillies fan, and enjoyed playing Pinochle, Bridge, and bowling and time with grandkids and family.


Surviving in addition to his wife Milly, are his children Kenneth E., married to Deborah (Stauffer) Bomberger of Spring City, Carlene Y., married to Scott Hufford of Leola, and Larry S., married to Linda (Hill) Bomberger of Farmington, NM; nine grandchildren: Christopher, Matthew and Stefan Bomberger, Lisa Miley, Melissa Stover, Daniel Hufford, Carisa and Krista Bomberger, and Carrie Crossley;and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Harold Bomberger of Quarryville, Claude of Hershey, Galen of Lancaster and Bruce of Leola.


He was preceded in death by a daughter Julie Ann Bomberger.


A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Avenue, Lancaster with Reverends Calvin Wenger and Cindy Lattimer officiating. Friends may call from 10 – 11 am. Tuesday at the church. Private interment will be in the Bareville Cemetery. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
