Carl F. Horning

Carl F. Horning, 94, of New Holland Road, Mohnton, PA, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the Lebanon Veterans Administation Center. His wife Estella M. (Renninger) Horning died in 1990.

Born in Alleghenyville, he was the son of the late Howard B. and Gladys Mae (Zellers) Horning. He was a member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mohnton.

In his early years as a butcher, Carl had a butcher route, and later worked for numerous markets.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Northern Africa and Europe from 1941-1945.

Carl was a life member of Grill Fire Co. and of AAA, and a member of Adamstown V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting until the age of 91 and was a member of the former Long Run Hunting Club.

He is survived by his son Dale E., married to Ruth Horning of Bowmansville, his daughter Robin L., married to David L. Hackman of Knauers, four grandchildren: Christina Keller, Rebecca Mummert, Kristi and Erik Hackman, six great grandchildren, and a sister Marian, married to Fred Lokay of Williamsburg, VA.

His funeral will be held on Monday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, (Knauers) PA 19540 with the Rev. Greg Shreaves officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring. A viewing will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA.
