Carl W. Martin, 90, died Friday morning, March 23 at Fairmount Wheat Ridge nursing facility where he was given eleven months of loving care by an excellent nursing staff.
As a skilled wood worker, he was employed as a carpenter, cabinet maker and kitchen cabinet installer at Rutt Custom Kitchens and Conestoga Valley Custom Kitchens. He is a member and a retired pastor of Gehman Mennonite Church, Adamstown; also a member of the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.
Born in Brecknock Township, he was the son of the late Aaron and Alice Martin.
He was married to the late Virginia I. Martin for 52 years. A second marriage, he is survived by Margaret W. Shirk Martin widow of the late Leon Shirk.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Lois, wife of Larry Martin of Robesonia, Arlene, wife of David Hollinger, East Earl and Sharon, wife of the late Lester Kurtz of Bowmansville; two sons, Glen, husband of Mary Landis Martin of Adamstown, Delmar, husband of Kathy Newswanger Martin, Mohnton; two brothers, Weaver of Adamstown, Warren of Oley; a sister, Viola, of Harrisonburg, VA; four stepsons, Maynard, husband of Alice Hess Shirk, Conestoga, Carl, husband of Sharon Lantz Shirk, Stumptown, David, husband of Dolores Good Shirk, East Earl, Dale, husband of Verda Kauffman Shirk, Terre Hill; 17 grand children, 24 great grand children, 13 step grand children and 13 step great children.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lucy Good and Esther Gehman and a brother Paul Martin.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 10 a.m. at Gehman’s Mennonite Church with Pastor Phil Horning officiating. Interment will be in Gehman’s Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel and at the church on Tuesday from 9 – 10 a.m. If desired, memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, Lancaster East Camp, P. O. Box 241, New Holland, PA 17557. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.
