Charles E. Bannon of 1393 Briertown Road, East Earl was welcomed home by his heavenly father on his 85th birthday on Friday.
Born Jan. 29, 1931, he was the son of the late Theodore K. and Ida May (McAfee) Bannon. His wife of 53 years, Gladys M. (Boley) Bannon, died Dec. 25, 2004.
He retired from Ford New Holland, now CNH, where he worked in the maintenance department. Charley also drove truck for Bannon Metals.
He was a member of Mt. Culmen Evangelical Congregational Church where he served as a trustee on the official board.
Charley was also a member of Howell Lodge 405 F&AM Honey Brook.
He enjoyed playing card and board games, watching all forms of auto racing, car shows, antique collecting and attending gospel and bluegrass concerts.
Surviving are a loving companion of 8 years, Shirley Good; 3 children, Kenneth C., married to Cindy (Wilson) Bannon of Leola, Phyllis A., married to Ken Ault, Jr. of East Earl, and Kimberly M., married to Tony Murray of East Earl; 5 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Mary Andrew and Emma Shirk; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Becker.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Weir; and a sister, Edna Becker.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at LGH New Holland Medical Center, visiting nurses, and Hospice & Community Care for their compassion and care over the years during Charley’s final days.
Charley’s celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, February 3 at 10 am at Bridgeville E.C. Church, 5971 Division Hwy., Narvon with the Reverend F. Kenneth Hoffer officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and on Wednesday from 9-10 am at the Bridgeville E.C. Church.
