Charles Lester “Mick” Byers, 91, of New Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 15, 2013.
Born Oct. 19, 1921, in Strasburg to the late Uriah S. and Catharine (Lefever) Byers.
He was the loving husband of Mary E. (Stone) Byers. They were in their 71st year of marriage.
He had retired from New Holland Agriculture (formerly Sperry Corporation); he also ran a farmette in rural New Holland, where he raised crops, chickens and pigs, and was a house painter from the age of 15. He proudly served in the Army during WWII.
He was a caring, dedicated, hard-working man who loved the Lord and his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Charles L. Jr. and Jean (Deller) Byers of New Holland; Sydney U. and Sharon (Dries) Byers of Venice, Fla.; Bradley B. and Betty (Killian) Byers of Ronks; Dianne L. and Nevin Burkholder of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Sherry L. and Joel Barrett of Dexter, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by siblings: Phares, Bud and Jake Byers, Alice Neidemyer Kring and Myrtle Mentzer.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Bible Church, 5367 Paes Road, New Holland, with the Reverend Norman Griess officiating. Internment will be in the Zeltenreich Cemetery.
