Charles H. Engle

Charles H. “Chuck” Engle, 74, of New Holland, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2014, at the Denver Health & Rehabilitation Center, Denver. Charles was the son of the late Ellis and Anna (Walker) Engle. He was married to Joan (Mentzer) Engle with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Chuck was a volunteer fireman for New Holland’s Liberty Fire Company for over 25 years. He drove truck for many years, hauling everything from steel to baby chicks. He was a self-employed locksmith for some years, and sold and built bicycles. He also enjoyed woodworking, using a scroll saw.

He was a passionate lover of nature, and was very knowledgeable about it, especially the birds. He was known locally as the “Eagle Man” because he followed the seasons with the “New Holland Eagles” for six years. He spent many hours at Middle Creek Wildlife quietly watching nature and the animals as they went about life. He was a prolific photographer and his many pictures prove his love of the outdoors.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lori, married to Michael Ross of Miami, Florida. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joell.
