Charles “Chuck” W. Hamilton, 89, of New Holland, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Garden Spot Village. He was the loving husband of Gladys W. Allen (Wagner) Hamilton, with whom he shared over 23 years of marriage. His first wife, Constance S. (Stead) Hamilton, preceded him in death in 1991.
Born in Rosemont, PA, Charles was a son of the late Warner S. and Lydia (Swain) Hamilton.
Charles proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was the president of C.W. Hamilton, Inc. and Brookhaven, Inc. Charles was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, the Lion Clubs of New Holland and Brookhaven, and, as V.P of the Delaware County branch of the Association for the Blind, helped build a 150 living unit building for the visually impaired, disabled, and elderly. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, wintering in Jupiter, FL, traveling (having visited all 50 states and southern Canadian Provinces in his RV), and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife Gladys, Charles is survived by 5 children: Janice M. Hamilton of Rogersville, TN, Charles W. Hamilton, Jr., husband of Mary Ellen, of Kimberton, PA, Bruce Wagner, husband of Jackie, of Boulder, MT, Diane L. Buchanan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Robert A. Wagner, husband of Lori, of Shillington, PA; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his brother Warner S. Hamilton, Jr., and his two sisters, Mary Jane Harlen and Betty Brunke.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11 AM at the Chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557 with Pastors Chester Yoder and Tim Heitz officiating. Interment will be held in the Evangelical United Methodist Cemetery, 276 W Main St, New Holland, PA 17557. Visitation will occur on Monday at the Chapel from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ honor may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, PO Box 4125, Lancaster PA 17604. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
