Charles G. Martin, 94, of Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave. ,New Holland, formerly of Union Grove, died peacefully and went to meet the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2016 . He was the loving husband of Verna (Zimmerman) Martin, whom preceded him in death on September 12, 2006.
Born in Bowmansville area, he was a son of the late Peter and Lizzie (Gehman) Martin.
Charles worked as a butcher and attended markets in Reading and the Lancaster area during the early years and worked for Martin’s market in the Morgantown store. He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and youth worker in earlier years. He also served as an elected auditor for the East Earl Township for several terms years ago.
Surviving are 2 children; Bishop C. Kenneth Martin, husband of Lois Martin, of East Earl, and Doris M. Haarer, wife of Rev. Verlin, of Ft. Wayne, IN; a brother, Wayne Martin, husband of Mary, of Fairmount Homes, Ephrata; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Charles was preceded in death by 6 siblings; 3 brothers: Clyde, Edwin, and Joseph Martin; and 3 sisters: Ruth Sensenig, and Irene and Anna Martin.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday May 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Garden Spot Village Chapel with Leon Hurst and Don Weaver officiating. Private Interment will be held at the convenience of the family with Brian Martin officiating. A visitation will be held at the Garden Spot Village Chapel on Thursday from 1-2:00 PM. Contributions may be made in Charles’ memory to the benevolent fund at Garden Spot Village or the building fund at Weaverland Mennonite Church 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl, PA 17519.
