Charles P. “Chuck” Maurer, 88, died early Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Fairmount Homes following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Claire (Nicholson) Maurer, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late Charles and Lavinia (Pengelly) Maurer. A 1950 graduate of Penn State University, he worked first for the F.B.I. for 14 months before joining Hartford Insurance and retired as Claims Manager after 29 years.
During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy and was the last person to jump from the U.S.S. Pringle Destroyer when it was sunk near Okinawa.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chuck had served on church council and as an offering teller.
Chuck enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, football and reading, and was very family-oriented.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Susan E. married to Charles Race, Lake Wynonah, PA, Kathleen Race, Pottstown, Barbara married to Jerald Dyson, Leola, and Nancy Heisserman, Haiku, Maui, HI, four grandsons, Justin Race, Jack Hagarty, Jerry and Alan Dyson, a sister Lowry Puckey, Nuangola, PA, and a cousin Penny Hild, Lansdale.
Services will be held on Monday, at 11:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland, with Rev. Jacki Roderick officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 am at the church. If desired, memorials may be made to The American CANCER Society, Lancaster County Unit, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
