Charles G. Nemec, Jr., 90, passed away on September 3, 2023 at Garden Spot Village where he lived as a resident for 18 years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Ford Nemec and two daughters: Tracy Heim (Jeffery) of West Chester, PA and Tara Evans (Scott) of St. Louis, MO. Chuck also had four grandchildren: William Evans (Katherine) of Huntsville, AL; Aleana Evans of St. Louis, MO; Samantha Zaggy (Matt) of St. Louis, MO; and Joel Evans of Bellevue, KY. Chuck was born and raised in Morrestown, NJ. After he graduated from high school he attended Drexel University until he joined the army. He served during the Korean Conflict for three years. After his honorable discharge he began working for Philco in California as a tech writer. He returned to New Jersey, took night classes at Temple University, and began working as a systems engineer for General Electric in King of Prussia. He worked for GE for 31 years in their Aerospace and Solar Energy divisions. Chuck and Carolyn lived and raised their daughters in Haddon Heights, NJ until 1992. Chuck served on the Haddon Heights School Board for 14 years, was a Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader, and Lay Leader at First United Methodist Church in Haddon Heights and, later, at the First United Methodist Church in Collingswood, NJ. Chuck, always an avid woodworker, spent five years building a log cabin home on Lake Wynonah, PA. He and Carolyn moved there after his retirement from GE. In Schuylkill County, Chuck was a Lay Leader at the First United Methodist Church in Schuylkill Haven and was active in Habitat for Humanity, putting his woodworking and building skills to God’s use. In 2005, Chuck and Carolyn moved to Garden Spot Village. Chuck was an active member of the Wood Shop, the Wing Nuts (a radio-controlled airplane group), served on the Administrative Board, and helped the PA State Department of Environmental Protection collect and test water from local streams. He was a member of St. Stephens Reformed Church in New Holland. Throughout his life, Chuck enjoyed being outdoors. He took his family on many camping trips; he organized and led several backpacking groups. He enjoyed overseas travel for business; in 2011 he enjoyed a trip to Prague where he was able to explore his family roots. The family would like to thank the caregivers in Wintergarden for their dedication and support of Chuck in his final years. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
