Cheryl Kay Mong, 62, of Martindale, went home to her Lord Jesus Christ, Thursday, October 27, 2011, 1:55 pm, at Hospice of Lancaster County surrounded by her family and dear friends. She was born July 9, 1949, in Akron, OH. Cheryl was married September 28, 1968, at Hubbard, OH (near Youngstown) to Rev. Keith E. Mong of Knox, PA. They have three daughters: Mrs. Valerie Schubert (Ed) of Honduras, C.A.; Sharon Hicks of Franklin, PA and Mrs. Robin Ace (Jeff) of Knox, PA. Ten grandchildren were her delight: Wesley, Adam John and Cheynece Schubert; Scott Andrew, Jr. and Sami Andrea Burke and Kirsten Hicks; and Grant, Clint, Johnathan, Jhoselyn Ace, and one on the way in January. Preceding Cheryl to Heaven is her father, Rev. Jack Purnell. Her mother Bonnie Jane (Sutter) lives in Tiffin, OH at Summerwood Retirement Community. Cheryls brother, Kenneth, lives in Oceanside, CA with wife, Leah, and two sons. Another brother, Mark, also preceded her to Heaven. He was married to Cindy Purnell who resides in Tiffin, OH. Cheryl was a beloved pastors wife and passionate mother who served with her husband at: Hubbard, OH; Johnstown, PA; Cedarville, IL; Seneca, PA; Winnebago, IL (near Rockford); and then Columbia, PA and presently Martindale, PA (near Ephrata). Cheryl was not only active in the church, but also was active in the community. She was a kindergarten teacher and later served as an administrative secretary at Christian Life School in Rockford, IL. More recently in Lancaster County she ministered through the Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services in Columbia, the Lancaster County Prison and EXIT (ex-offenders in transition) and the Living Hope Counseling Center in Gap. Trips to Honduras provided rich opportunities to minister with her daughter to the Honduran women. She raised up six spiritual granddaughters there: Maria, Jhoselyn, Eleni, Johana, Fany and Nadetie. A Memorial Service of Triumph is planned for Saturday, November 19, 10:00 am, at Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church, Route 322 beyond Blue Ball (route 23), two miles east of Shady Maple Restaurant. In the summer of 2012, a Service of Remembrance will be planned at the convenience of the family in the Rockford, IL area.
