Chloe S. Schmidt

Chloe S. Schmidt, 70, of Ephrata, formerly of New Holland and State College, died Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Fairmount Homes, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Shenandoah, PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruth (Shoup) Stauffer. Her husband, Barry L. Schmidt, died Feb. 2, 2007.Chloe was a 1970 graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Elementary Education. She was a homemaker and also a pre-school teacher.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in State College.

Chloe enjoyed bowling, gardening, tennis, and attending numerous Penn State athletics events.

Surviving are two children, Kirsten, married to Bill Coughlin of Newark, DE, and Nathan J., married to Lauren (Stern) Schmidt of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, Julia and Kate Coughlin, and Lincoln Barry Schmidt; a brother, William Stauffer of Honey Brook; and a sister, Constance Zimmerman of Los Gatos, CA.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 8 at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Church from 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org/pa.
