Clara Elizabeth MacPherson, at 100 of age, died on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Garden Spot Village surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late David and Cassie (Kissick) Peterson and the devoted wife of John MacPherson for nearly 76 glorious years. Clara has been preceded in death by her two sisters, Catherine Uhrmann and Gail Haggerty.
Clara was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 26, 1924. She grew up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia and distinguished herself as the Valedictorian of her graduating class of Mastbaum High School.
Clara trusted Christ as her Savior as a child and her life was never the same. She committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ and invested her life in faithful service of Him. Clara had artistic gifts that she employed in the beautiful birthday and wedding cakes she prepared for her children and grandchildren. Clara was most fulfilled when she was serving others and extended hospitality to friends and family alike. Describing Clara would be impossible to do without adjectives such as gracious, kind-hearted, generous, smart, forgiving, wise, godly, hospitable, beautiful and loving.
In addition to her love for the Lord Jesus Christ, her love and devotion for her husband John was a monumental part of her life. Their love story began 84 years ago and their nearly 76 years of marriage stands as a testament of their love for one another. Their love letters during the agonizing war years, during which they were separated, half a world apart, tell a story of their desire to resume their life together and start a family. God honored that desire and they were blessed with three children and many happy family times. Through it all, God was directing their steps through all the joys and sorrows of life. The scripture says life is like a tale that is told and the tale of Clara would have never been complete without John. Their loving devotion to their Lord and each other stand as a testimony to God’s amazing goodness and grace.
Her husband John preceded her in death in 2018, however, Clara is survived by two daughters, Jean Hadden and Beverly McQuade and her son, John MacPherson, 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Clara was buried at the Eby Cemetery in Leola, Pa. Relatives and friends will be invited to attend a Memorial Service to be scheduled in the coming weeks.
