Cristina M. Hoober (born Elaine Cristina Cerqueira da Silva) is at peace. In keeping with Cristina’s philosophy of never sugar-coating difficult subjects, she died on April 7 at age 39 following a long battle with anxiety, depression, and addiction. Despite her sometimes cantankerous exterior, Cristina had a good heart and loved her children. She was quick to help anyone in need, whether they had two legs or four.
Cristina was born to Zorilda Cerqueira da Silva in Brazil and later adopted by Nancy A. Hoober of New Holland. In addition to Nancy, Cristina is survived by two children: Tristin Rosa, Intercourse and Ariana Feliciano, New Holland.
Cristina’s love of soccer was on full display when her beloved Brazilian national team played in the World Cup. She also enjoyed art, especially calligraphy, and being outdoors in warm, sunny weather.
Cristina’s family would like to thank the many people in the helping professions who came to her aid over the years and were able to see past the current crisis to the hurting person inside.
A memorial service for Cristina will be held on Saturday, April 16 at New Holland Mennonite Church, 18 Western Ave., New Holland, PA. The 11 a.m. service will be followed by a time of food and fellowship at the church.
For anyone who wishes to honor Cristina’s memory in a tangible way, please give a rose to a friend or a monetary donation to a mental health organization of your choice.
The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
