Daniel R. Friday, 88, of 66 Primrose Ct., New Holland, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Ephrata Community Hospital. His wife of 34 years, Peggy Ann (Smith) Friday, survives. His first wife, Mary Alice (Dunlevy) Friday preceded him in death in 1979.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Friday, Sr. and Esther Lydia (Steiner) Friday.
Daniel proudly served in the U. S. Navy 7th Fleet in Okinawa during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He then graduated from Drexel University and became a design engineer in aerospace for General Electric re-entry systems divisions in Philadelphia, retiring in 1988.
Currently he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland where he sang in the choir. He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church of Levittown and a former member of Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and the Morrisville Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir.
He was involved with the Bucks County Singers, Delaware Valley Choral Society, Neshaminy Valley Music Theater, Boheme Opera Company in Trenton, NJ, Gap Male Chorus, Village Voices and various Barbershop groups.
He previously served on the Tullytown Borough Council and was past chairman of the Morrisville, PA Planning Commission.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children: Anne Elizabeth married to John Teal, Newport, PA; James R. married to Kathryn Friday, Chester Springs; Dana Lynne married to Paul Auerbach, Langhorne; Jane E. married to Euphemio Rivera, Fairless Hills, PA; Virginia married to Nelson Gilfillian, Morton, PA; Laurie married to Lee Rosenau, Chestnut Hill; George H. Mecleary, Jr. married to Marie, Rehoboth, DE; Christopher Mecleary married to Ann, Sellersville; 24 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two siblings: Thomas J. married to Eleanor Friday, Lower Gwynedd and Phoebe Mae Wald, Carlsborg, WA; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jacquelyn H. Roderick officiating. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Benevolent Fund of Garden Spot Village, 433 S.
