Daniel J. Rossi, DDS, 96, of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, formerly of Broomall, a retired Oral Surgeon, die Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Garden Spot Village.
Dr. Rossi was born in Philadelphia. After graduating from Haverford High School in 1944, he served in the U. S. Army in the Philippine Islands.
He attended Temple University School of Dentistry, where he graduated cum laude in 1952. He attended the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine where he studied Oral Surgery and earned a master’s degree in dental science. After completing a two-year Oral Surgery residency at Pennsylvania Hospital, he practiced Oral Surgery from 1955 to 1983 in Upper Darby, Delaware County.
Dr. Rossie was an attending staff member at Delaware County Hospital, Riddle Hospital, Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital and Misericordia Hospital. He was an assistant clinical professor of Oral Surgery at the Temple University Dental School. He lectured extensively and contributed articles to professional publications.
He was a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, a member of the American Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and he served as President of the Delaware Valley Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1975.
Dr. Rossi was also a member of the American Dental Association and the Pennsylvania Dental Association. He was elected president of the Chester County and Delaware County Dental Society in 1963. He was active in Delaware County civic organizations, having served on the Board of Director of the American Cancer Society, the Community College Advisory Committee, the “Committee of 100” Health and Welfare Council and as a Blue Shield District Commissioner.
Dr. Rossi received an honorary degree as a Fellow n the American College of Dentists. He was listed in “Who’s Who in American Dentistry” in 1963 and “Who’s Who in the East” from 1964 through 1976.
Dr. Rossi is survived by his son Peter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rita Shoemaker Rossi, whom he met when they were students at Haverford High School, sons Daniel, Jr. and Robert, and a daughter Marie.
