Darlene Redcay, 82, of Landis Homes, formerly of Goodville died Friday, January 2, 2015 at Landis Homes.
She was born June 25, 1932 in Lancaster County to Nathan (died 1980) and Florence (died 2013) Oberholtzer, Manheim.
On March 21, 1953, she was married to Edwin Redcay. Edwin was killed in an auto accident in August 1994. They were married for 41 years.
Together they had four children, Bob married to Cindy Sell Redcay, Mount Joy, Brenda Strausser, Denver, Sharon, married to Phil Miller, Dayton, Ohio & Jerry, married to Tracey Boley Redcay, New Holland, seven grandchildren and two great grandsons. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary James Strausser.
Also survived by siblings: Nathan Oberholtzer, Jr., Joyce Hoffer, Wilbur Oberholtzer, and Kenneth Oberholtzer.
Darlene was a member of the Goodville Mennonite Church since 1961 where she was active in teaching children’s Sunday School Classes for several decades. She was also active in their sewing circle serving as Vice President and President over the years. Darlene was involved in the church’s food bank for 13 years.
She cleaned the church for 20 years and Rutt’s Kitchens display cabinets for over 20 years.
She worked for Ranck’s Restaurant in Morgantown for five years as a dish washer and enjoyed meeting and talking with the customers.
Darlene volunteered at the ReUzit Shop in Morgantown by washing clothes that were donated to the store.
Darlene enjoyed making bags and filling them with goodies to give to family and friends.
She had a small sewing business making quilts, baby comforters, table tops, etc. for many years.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Goodville Mennonite Church with Pastor Bruce Sauder officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to Goodville Mennonite Church, 1556 Main St., Goodville, PA 17528.
