David Z. Burkholder

David Z. Burkholder, 78, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of 276 Gristmill Road, New Holland, died Thursday, October 27, 2011, surrounded by his family at Fairmount Homes. Born in Ephrata he was the son of the late Noah W. and Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Burkholder. His wife, Grace H. (Fox) Burkholder, died May 29, 2011. David retired in 1995 from the former Rutt Custom Kitchens in Goodville after 35 years as a salesman. He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church where he served as chorister and Sunday school teacher for many years. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed playing guitar, golfing, model airplanes, hunting, and playing softball. For a time he played with the Golden Valley Boys and was a member of the Garden Spot and the Indian Springs Hunting Camps. Surviving are four children, Nancy, married to Ray Newswanger of Terre Hill, Dale, married to Diane (Weaver) Burkholder of Ephrata, Lynn Burkholder of East Earl, and Glenn, married to Lori (Morgan) Burkholder of Martindale; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters, Anna, married to Eli M. Horst of Leola, Mary, married to Melvin S. Martin of Richland, Edna, married to Noah B. Weaver of Manheim, Lena, married to Paul B. Zimmerman of Ephrata, Ivan, married to Irene M. (Zimmerman) Burkholder of Akron, Harvey, married to Jeanette (Shober) Burkholder of Ephrata, Ella, married to Raymond M. Hurst of Ephrata, Etta, married to Edwin M. Martin of Holtwood, Norman Burkholder of Leola, and Elvin Burkholder of Ephrata. Preceding him in death are three sisters, Alta Zimmerman, Elizabeth Martin, and Ada Snyder; and two brothers, Aaron and Noah Burkholder. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 31 at 10 am at the Martindale Mennonite Church, 171 Hurst Road, Ephrata with the Reverend David Sensenig and the Reverend Marty Hostetter officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Sunday from 3-5 pm and on Monday from 9-10 am at the Church.
