David Z. Horning

David Z. Horning, 64, of 941 Martindale Road, Ephrata, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Amos and Lydia (Zimmerman) Horning. He was married 43 years on Dec. 25 to Mabel S. (Zimmerman) Horning.

David was a farmer and also owned and operated Horning’s Bike Shop for many years. He was a member of Martindale Mennonite Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Marlene, married to Earl Witmer of Leola, Mervin, married to Alta (Ringler) Horning of Martindale, David Ray, married to Regina (Garman) Horning of Ionia, IA, Elaine Anne, married to Loren Nolt of East Earl, and Rosene, married to Gerald Martin of New Holland; 23 grandchildren; a son-in-law, Glenn Martin of Stevens; and six brothers and sisters, Edna Mae, married to Aaron Zimmerman of New Holland, Ivan, married to Ella Z. (Horst) Horning of Penn Yan, NY, Harvey, married to Ruth N. (Zimmerman) Horning of Millmont, Amos, married to Ellen N. (Zimmerman) Horning of New Holland, Lydia, married to Ephraim M. Kilmer of Penn Yan, NY, and Alvin, married to Vera N. (Hurst) Horning of Penn Yan, NY.

Preceding him in death is an infant son, Glenn Horning; a daughter, Mary Ann Martin; and a grandson, Glenn Eugene Witmer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 10 at 1 pm at the late home with further services at 1:30 pm at the Martindale Mennonite Church with the Bishop Titus H. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the late home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers. Arrangements by Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill.
