Donald Luther Huyett, 101, of New Holland, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025. Born in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, on November 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Luther and Dorothy (Drenkle) Huyett.
Don was a proud graduate of Birdsboro High School, where he served as valedictorian. He answered the call to serve his country during World War II, completing two terms in the United States Navy. In his first term, he served as a Fighter Director and Communications Officer, and in his second, as an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Following his military service, Don attended Franklin and Marshall College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, magna cum laude.
After his military service, Don began a long and dedicated career with the New Holland Division of UNISYS (formerly Sperry Rand), where he worked for over 35 years as a computer programmer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen (Showalter) Huyett; his sister, Adele Huyett of Birdsboro; and two stepchildren, George Meissner and Teri (Meissner) Stewart.
Don is survived by his two children, Ted Huyett and his wife Carlotta of South Milwaukee, WI, and Staci (Huyett) Neuber and her husband Joe, of Phoenixville, PA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Toni (Dussinger) McCarty and her husband Tim, and Tami (Dussinger) Thompson and her husband Stephen, both of New Holland; Kris Huyett and his wife Maria, of Oak Creek, WI, and Donald F. Huyett, of South Milwaukee; and Samantha Neuber of Emeryville, CA. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren: Jack and Grace McCarty of New Holland, PA, and Donald F. Huyett Jr. of South Milwaukee, WI.
Throughout his life, Don enjoyed sports and staying active. He played tennis in his younger years, loved golf, and began running 5Ks in his 60s through his early 70s. He was an avid reader, a fan of word and number puzzles, and something of a walking encyclopedia. Those who knew him will remember his sharp wit, gentle humor, and endless patience. Don was a humble and kind man who never spoke harshly of anyone. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather, and his warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA 17557. A private interment will be held in Terre Hill Cemetery.
