Dorothy I. (Caldwell) Bookamer, 92, of Akron, passed away on August 20, 2021 in her residence with her loving daughter by her side.
Born in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Marie (Carr) Caldwell.
Dorothy was a homemaker for all her life, and she was a precious mother to her children.
Wes and Dorothy were married on September 4, 1948 and shared seventy two loving years of marriage.
They had served as missionaries together for three years in French West Africa.
Wes and Dorothy are survived by their children; Wesley Howard Bookamer of Brooksville, FL, James Braden Bookamer of Dade City, FL, Stephen Lee Bookamer of Carlisle, David William Bookamer of Chambersburg, and Joy Elin Bookamer of Akron. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy is predeceased by her first-born son; John Wesley Bookamer, who passed away in 1949 and two sisters, Ellen Hartman and Harriett Bunney.
Wes and Dorothy are rejoicing together in the Presence of their Lord and Savior. After nearly 73 years of marriage the Lord gave them the desire of their hearts to be together to the end. He took them home to Glory three days apart.
A memorial service for Wes and Dorothy will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Light officiating. There will be a visitation time held from 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM in the church.
Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
