Dorothy S. Caffrey

Dorothy S. Caffrey, formerly of New Holland, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2010. She was 88 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel C. Caffrey Sr., in 1995 and her son, Daniel C. Caffrey Jr., in 1993.

"Dot" spent her life devoted to her heavenly Father, living a humble life and sharing His love with her family and friends. She was hard working and a fine example of a woman of faith to those who knew her.

Born in New Holland, Dot was the daughter of the late Guy and Anna Stone.

She graduated from New Holland High School and worked at Food Fair, Ephrata, in the meat department. Her expert culinary skills were a result of serving as a cook near a Kansas Army base during her husband's service during World War II. She ultimately became a full-time housewife where she blessed her family with her cooking, hard work and her delightful presence. She was a long-time member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland.

Surviving is a daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Caffrey-Schafer, New Holland, a granddaughter, Danette L., married to Craig Shelly, New Holland, and a grandson, Daniel C. Caffrey III, married to Suzette, of Denver, and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the tenderhearted caregivers from Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center and the Green Team from Hospice of Lancaster County.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main Street, New Holland, with Pastor Dave Fulmer officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family Thursday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be in Zeltenreich Cemetery.
