Dorothy Buckwalter Overly

Dorothy Jeanne (Buckwalter) Overly, 94, formerly of Blue Ball, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron, PA. She was the loving wife of the late John G. Overly.

Dorothy earned her Bachelor's Degree from West Chester State Teacher's College in the 1940s and served as an elementary school teacher in Parkesburg, PA, before marrying her husband on August 6, 1947. She enjoyed music of all kinds and especially line dancing with her friends at the Sr. Olympics. She was a prolific writer of poems and songs and an artist with many drawings and paintings. Dorothy taught Sunday School at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church and often encouraged others to grow in their relationship with her Lord Jesus. She loved traveling and was a life-long learner. She was an avid reader who challenged others to be more than they thought they could be. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched.

She leaves four sons, Robert C. Overly of Landisville, Thomas A. husband of Cyndie Collins Overly of St. Petersburg, FL, David P. husband of Mary Ann Notari Overly of Redonda Beach, CA, and John R. husband of Kristie Wentz Overly of East Earl, PA; five grandsons, one great granddaughter, two great grandsons; and two brothers, Ira M. “Bucky” Buckwalter, Jr. of New Holland, and Charles H. Buckwalter of Miami. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and a sister, Betty Buckwalter Ranck of Honey Brook.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, 4833 Division Highway, East Earl, PA with the Rev. Dr. Krisana Poontajak officiating. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Ranck’s United Methodist Cemetery.
