Dorothy Esbenshade Stauffer, 91, of New Holland, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Garden Spot Village, following an illness since Easter.
Born in Upper Leacock Twp., she was the daughter of the late Park F., Sr. and Ruth (Beam) Esbenshade. She was married 58 years on August 3 to Dr. Rodney H. Stauffer.
Dorothy had worked as an administrative secretary at New Holland Machine Company for 12 years.
She was an active member of St. Stephen Reformed Church where she organized and taught a class for special needs individuals for many years. She served as a leader of a local Girl Scout Troop and coordinated local Girl Scout cookie sales for several decades. She was active in the New Holland Area Women’s Club. She often shared her gift of hospitality with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are 3 daughters, Anita S., married to Michael F. Dickert of Millersville, Carla S., married to Michael B. Buterbaugh of Shillington, and Donna J. Stauffer of Lancaster; 5 grandchildren, Brian Buterbaugh, married to Julie, Sarah Dickert, Philip Dickert, Bethany Dickert, and Brandon Buterbaugh; a great grandson, Evan; a sister, Harriet E. Latschar of Akron; and many nieces and nephews. She was also “mother” to two exchange students; Irma, from Peru, and Lek, from Thailand.
Preceding her in death are 6 brothers, Donald H., J. Kendrick, Robert D., Stanley B., Clair B., and Park F., Jr.; and 3 sisters, Rev. M. Lucile Esbenshade, Marian E. Keneagy Coon, and June R. Holler.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 10:30 am at St. Stephen Reformed Church, 249 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557 with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Witmer officiating. Private interment will be held at St. Stephen Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland and also on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am at the Church. Kindly omit flowers.
