Dorothy J. Sweigart, 81, of 262 Locust St., New Holland died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 unexpectedly at Ephrata Community Hospital emergency room. Her husband, R. Glenn “Dutch” Sweigart preceded her in death on August 2.
Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Kreider) Burkhart.
Dorothy was employed for over 40 years in the Eastern Lancaster County School District cafeteria.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association and enjoyed bowling. She was also known for her baking abilities, especially her pumpkin bread.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen, married to Barry Bachman of Columbia, and Denise Conners of Leola; a granddaughter, Courtney Springer; two step granddaughters, Corinda and Amy Bachman; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Isaiah Springer; two step great grandsons, Corey Ward and Darius Bachman; a step great-great grandson, Brody Balchunas; a brother Donald married to Carol Burkhart, VA, and a sister-in-law Helen Ann Burkhart, Avondale.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Burkhart.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 11 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 221 E. Main St., New Holland, PA with the Reverend David Klepper officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Monday from 7-9 pm at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland and on Tuesday from 10-11 am at the Church.
