Dr. Robert M. Brackbill, Sr., 92 of New Holland, formerly of Landisville, died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Garden Spot Village.
Born in Kinzers, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mae (Montgomery) Brackbill. His wife, Sylvia (Hoober) Brackbill, died in 1998.
Robert graduated from Paradise High School, Elizabethtown College, and later from Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland. He practiced dentistry for 44 years in Landisville.
He was a member of Xi Psi Phi fraternity, president of the Lancaster County Dental Society, president of the 5th District Dental Society, a fellow of Academy of General Dentistry, president of the Pennsylvania Academy of General Dentistry, served on the board of Directors of Delta Dental, and was a member of the International College of Dentists. He received the Herbert Cooper award for service to dentistry. He was a member, elder and president of the consistory of the Salem UCC of Rohrerstown. He also served as president of the Mt. Joy Rotary Club and the Denver-Adamstown Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Rotary Award.
He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, and playing bridge.
Surviving are three children, Robert, Jr. MD, married to Elizabeth (Whipple) Brackbill MD of Wyomissing, Andrew, married to Pamela (Courtney) Brackbill of Lititz, and Abby, married to Jeffrey Zell of Terre Hill; 12 grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Sarah, Rachel, Robert, III, Matthew, Joseph, Julia Kate, Drew, Hannah, Olivia, and Katherine; and three great grandsons.
Preceding him in death is a daughter-in-law, Janis Fichtner Brackbill; a grandson, Benjamin Zell; and a granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Brackbill.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19 at Noon at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, with Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private at Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery.
