Obituary

Edmund Newlin Rule, 98, of New Holland, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026.

Born on November 19, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ed lived a life defined by faith, service, and devotion to family. A man of deep Christian faith, he kept God at the center of his life and carried those values into everything he did.

A proud United States Marine, Ed held that identity with honor long after his service ended. It shaped the way he lived and the way he raised his family, instilling discipline, punctuality, and a strong work ethic grounded in serving something greater than oneself.

Ed spent 44 years with Bell Telephone, where he was known for his reliability and steady commitment. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in his younger years and remained a loyal Philadelphia sports fan throughout his life. He also found great enjoyment in golf and the fellowship that came with it.

He was widely known for his sharp sense of humor, as well as his dependability, never late and always someone others could count on. Thoughtful and selfless, Ed made a habit of bringing small gifts to friends and neighbors at Garden Spot Village, a simple but meaningful reflection of how much he cared for others.

Ed will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His life was marked by quiet strength, consistency, and a genuine concern for those around him.

Ed is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, H. Joyce Rule, and his son, George Edmund Rule. He is survived by his children, Cheryl, Dawn, and Jeff; two daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA 17557 with Chaplain Chet Yoder officiating. A Viewing will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment in Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Spot Benevolent Fund at the address above.

Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
