Edward W. “Mick” Collins, 80 of New Holland, devoted husband and father, died peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2014, in hospice care at the VA Medical Center, Coatesville, surrounded by family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Amelia D. Collins, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage. Edward was a skilled first-class machinist for Lukens Steel Co. for 30 years, and a member of Ranck’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by the mother of his two children, Sandra L. Collins of Parkesburg, PA; daughter Judith M. Welsh, partner of Charles Fields, of Kimberton (formerly of Coatesville); son Edward W. Collins, Jr., partner of Gary LaRue, Davenport, FL; step-son Thomas H. Deets, husband of Vicki, New Holland, PA; step-son Kevin D. Deets, husband of Beth, Coatesville, PA; step-daughter Karen D. Mendenhall, Coatesville, PA; step-daughter Michelle L. Coblentz, wife of Chris, Terre Hill, PA; step-son Gordon B. Jameson, Denver, PA; granddaughters Shannon Williams, Michelle Larrabee, Kelly Deets, Kristin Buckley, Megan Mendenhall, Faith Coblentz; grandsons Matthew Deets, David Deets, Michael Mendenhall, Maxwell Mendenhall, Austin Coblentz, Dylan Coblentz; a brother Dale Collins; a sister, Dolores McAlpine; an aunt, Erma I. Collins; 5 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Pratt Collins and Erma M. (Wallace) Collins a brother, Jack A. Collins, and sister, Ida E. “Bubbles” Wolownik.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Ranck’s United Methodist Church, 700 Ranck Road, New Holland, PA 17557, with Pastors Kevin Readman and Dr. Kris Poontajak officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. A public viewing will be held on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at Ranck’s U.M. Church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Edward’s honor to the Garden of Grace Hospice Unit of the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320.
