Edward Samuel McQueen, 76, of New Holland, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on October 14, 1947, Ed was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a respected member of the community.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth McQueen, to whom he was married since June 2013; his two children, Edward McQueen Jr. and Danielle McQueen; his stepson, Ethan Thomas; five grandchildren: Autumn, Brendan, Edward, Andrew, and Adam; and seven great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Linda Brown McQueen, the mother of his two children; his brother, Glenn McQueen Sr.; and his parents, Edwin Bliss McQueen and Evelyn Mercer McQueen.
Ed served his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1987, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer (CPO). His dedication to service extended beyond his military career as he became a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a longstanding member of the Christiana Lodge #147, where he was involved since 1971. He was also an active member of the Raja Shrine, contributing to various charitable endeavors. From 1986 to 2016, Ed owned and operated the White Horse Inn in the village of White Horse, Pennsylvania. This historic inn, in continuous operation since 1741, was a family treasure that Ed proudly purchased from his parents. Under his care, the inn remained a vital part of the community, known for its welcoming atmosphere and rich history. Ed’s life was marked by service, leadership, and a deep commitment to his family and community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A public celebration of life will be held on October 19th at The Cellar at Houston Run, located at 836 Houston Run Drive, Gap, PA 17527. Doors will open at 10 AM, the service will begin at 11 AM, and a light lunch will be served at 12:30 PM. All those who knew Ed and wish to share their memories and stories of a great man are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at T2T.org.
Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
