Edwin Charles Lodge was united with his Savior on January 31, 2026 at the age of 101.
The son of Robert and Frances Lodge, Ed began life at 10.6 pounds, won a “healthy baby contest” before age 1, and kept that winning streak for another century. A sergeant in the US Army from 1943-1946, Ed was stationed in Germany following V-E Day. After the War, he graduated with a BS in Economics from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania on the GI Bill. This education led to a career at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia for several decades, and Ed later did consulting work for FDIB (Firm Directions in Banking). On April Fool’s Day 1950, Ed began 75 blessed years of marriage to Dorothy (Dowdy) Lodge. After making a home and raising their family in Delaware County, PA for over 30 years, the happy couple spent just under 20 years of retirement as residents of Cape May, NJ. Their second retirement, to the countryside in Narvon, PA, brought them closer to children and grandchildren. Ed was always quick with a witty remark or fitting joke, loved singing, could beat any crossword puzzle, and had the memory of an elephant.
He is remembered lovingly by his wife and three children, Kenneth (Virginia) Lodge, Barbara (Daniel) Long, and Suzanne (Paul) Palmer; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel, Brittany, Kristin, Bethany, Shanna, Kimberly, and Jonathan; their eight spouses; and many great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Road, New Holland, PA, at 11 AM on Friday, February 6, 2026. Visitation will be from 10–11 AM at the church. In Ed’s honor, donations can be made to Boys and Girls Christian Home, PO Box 219, North East, MD 21901 or at bgchm.org.
