Elizabeth W. Horst

On Sunday, December 31, 2023 at 4:24 pm, at the home of her daughter, Evelyn King, Elizabeth W. (Zimmerman) Horst entered into glory. A group of family and friends were singing, “I’ll fly away”.

Elizabeth was born in Brecknock Township to the late Noah and Elizabeth (Wise) Zimmerman.

She was the wife of the late Melvin H. Horst, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on August 11, 2012.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and helper to her husband, Melvin, on the farm. She loved her Heavenly Father and loved her family. Being a prayer warrior, she guided her family to serve Him. Elizabeth was a member of the Groffdale Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference).

She is survived by six children; Glenn (Janet Hurst) Horst of Ephrata, Jane (Jim) Horst of Stevens, Evelyn King (late Jacob King) of Leola, Larry (Cindy Knauer) Horst of Lancaster, Melvin Jr. (Tina Kraft) Horst of Ephrata, and Robert (Greta Galeschewski) Horst of Lancaster. Elizabeth is survived by 22 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her 6 sisters; Edna Groff, Edith Burkholder, Anna Weiler, Eva Brubaker, Bertha Weaver and Verna Martin.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Groffdale Mennonite Church, 90 Groffdale Church Road, Leola PA 17540 with Bishop Curvin Z. Zimmerman officiating. A Viewing will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fairmount Homes Farm Crest Chapel, 1100 Farm Crest Drive, Ephrata PA 17522. Burial in the adjoining church cemetery.
