Elizabeth Sauder Martin, 102, died on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA where she resided since 1996. She was the wife of Daniel Hoover Martin who died in 1976.
Born in Caernarvon Township, she was the daughter of Peter Eaby and Ida (Martin) Sauder. Following her marriage in 1930, she lived in the New Holland area. She was a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church where she taught children’s Sunday school classes and was active in the sewing circle. She was an associate member of the Community Church at Garden Spot Village.
Elizabeth had a keen memory of people and events, and cultivated wide friendships. She authored three volumes of family genealogies with the support of two of her children. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Re-Uzit Shop of New Holland.
She is survived by her seven children, Mary (Paul) Zehr, Lancaster; Luke (Mary Kauffman) Martin, Allentown; Aaron (Ruth Parsons) Martin, Brown Summit, N.C.; Raymond (Luanne Habegger) Martin, McLean, VA; Robert (Sarah Martin) Martin, Gordonville; Earl (Patricia Hostetter) Martin, Harrisonburg, VA; and Grace (James) Dickerson, Washington, DC; 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Cora Sweigert, Kenton, OH and Ida Brubaker, Lititz.
She was preceded in death by a brother Alvin Sauder and a sister Grace Eberly.
A viewing is planned in the Village Park at Garden Spot Village from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Monday afternoon, June 4. Burial will be at Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 5. A Celebration of Life service is planned in the chapel at Garden Spot Village at 2:00 PM Tuesday, followed by a reception and visitation hour.
