Elsie M. Beachy, 91, formerly of Witmer, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Landis Homes where she had resided since 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvie R. Beachy in 2002. Born in East Lampeter Twp., she was the daughter of the late M. Rohrer and Elizabeth (Leaman) Leaman. Elsie was an active member of Mellinger Mennonite Church, Lancaster, and a life member of Witmer Fire Co., Ladies Auxiliary. She had been a census taker for East Lampeter Township for many years. She and her husband had enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. and Europe and visiting with their children and relatives who lived out of state and in Canada as well. She will be missed by friends and her family, including her children, Glenn, married to Janice (Skiles) Beachy of Westerville, OH, Dottie, married to Rev. Mel Hathaway, of Dalton, OH, Don, married to Darlene (Sauder) Beachy of Bird in Hand, and Lois, married to Ron Eby of East Earl; her grandchildren, Allison, married to Marlon Beach, Beth, wife of the late Mike Scharfe, Dawn Beachy, Heather, married to Mike Kelly, and Marissa Eby; two great grandsons, Jack Scharfe and Max Beach, and a sister Ruth Martin of Goshen, IN. She was preceded in death by her sisters Gladys Leaman, Irene Groff, Pauline Leaman, and Dorothy Musser, and two infant brothers. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at Mellinger Mennonite Church, 1916 Lincoln Hwy. E., Lancaster, PA, with Pastors Joe Miller and Leon Oberholtzer officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 8 p.m. on Friday at West Bethany Chapel, Landis Homes, and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the Church.
