Elsie Mae Clements Johnson
September 15, 1931 – August 18, 2024
Elsie was born in Drexel Hill, PA on September 15, 1931 to the late George and Elsie (nee Fletcher) Clements. She went to Upper Darby High School where she was on the art staff for the school paper, school magazine and the all school show. After graduating from high school in 1949, she studied painting at Moore Institute of Art. She graduated from Moore in 1953.
Elsie met the love of her life Charlie in Ocean City, NJ. They married in 1953 and spent a year in California until he was discharged from the Navy. In 1954 they bought a farm close to the village of Niantic in Upper Montgomery County, PA. They lived there until they retired to Garden Spot Village in New Holland, PA in 2007.
Elsie was active in the Pottstown Artist Guild, the Upper Merion Cultural Center and the Perkiomen Valley Art Center. She received many awards and sold commissioned paintings of private homes, animals and portraits. In 1968 she won 1st place in the Reading Museum Juried Show for her oil painting “Country Boy” which the museum purchased for their private collection. She joined fellow artists in forming the “Garden Spot Village Art Guild”, whose mission statement is: “To enrich the lives of older adults as an expression of Christ’s love.” Her art work can be seen around Garden Spot village and was selected for Garden Spot Christmas cards and birthday cards.
Elsie was a member of Petra Church and an associate member of the Community Church of Garden Spot Village. In addition to painting, Elsie loved to garden and enjoyed the beauty of nature, all animals (especially sheep), and spending time with family and friends. She saw beauty in everything and in everyone.
Elsie is survived by her children: Paul and wife Jennifer of Spring Mount, PA, David and wife Shelley of Indiana, PA, and Brenda Warner (nee Johnson) of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren: Erik Johnson London and wife Shelby of Los Angles, CA, Ryan Warner of Mechanicsburg, PA, Michael Jacoby and fiancé Jennifer Coyle of Melbourne, FL, Benjamin Jacoby of Chihuahua, Mexico, Brian Jacoby and partner Julie Muscavich of Crucible, PA; great grandchildren: Simon Charles London, Kayla Ward, Trevor, Aiden, Abby, Eli, Gabriel and Lilyann Jacoby; great great grandchildren: Brently Holliday, Amelia and Blake Ward; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Johnson in 2018 and her brother George Clements.
A memorial service will be held at Garden Spot Village on October 4th at 11:00AM.
